Label Films - Acetate
Acetate is the original film stock used in almost every application where paper was not acceptable. Similar to polyester and vinyl, acetate required special handling--particularly in ink receptivity and press conversion, which was attempted only by experienced converters. However, as technology advanced in raw materials and machinery, all converters now can work with acetate successfully. The primary disadvantage of acetate in today's market is its relatively high cost versus other films, and the comparative performance of other polyolefins. Although it is brittle, 1.5 to 2 mil acetate is still used for cosmetics and health/beauty products. Unlike other films, acetate possesses greater resistance to the chemicals used in these products (e.g. acetone). Acetate has a relatively low tear strength and moderate heat resistance, and is not recommended for outdoor use.
